Volunteer Position
Welcome Corps Application Support Specialist
Volunteer with a dynamic team of diverse individuals committed to bringing refugees to safety and freedom. We are looking for volunteers to be trained to provide application support and coaching for our refugee Private Sponsorship program.
Responsibilities
Work alongside local sponsor groups on their Welcome Corps application for “Sponsor Someone You Know” , where private sponsor groups can sponsor a refugee household they know
Work alongside local sponsor groups on their Welcome Corps application for “Matching”, where private sponsor groups sponsor a refugee household they do not yet know.
Meet with sponsors working with Patchwork Indy through small-group office hours or Teams sessions to provide application support
Attend our trainings to learn about the Welcome Corps and application process
Identify barriers, roadblocks, and challenges that sponsors are facing in the application process, and share this information with the Patchwork Sponsorship team.
Identify successes, best practices, and effective tools that help sponsors with the application process, and share this information with the Patchwork Sponsorship Team
You must be able to complete a background check as part of the onboarding process before you begin volunteering.
Qualifications
Strong Communication Skills. Ability to clearly articulate information, provide guidance, and answer questions in a supportive and empathetic manner. Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
Experience with Refugee Resettlement or Sponsorship. Previous experience working with refugee resettlement programs, sponsorship groups, or similar initiatives is highly desirable.
Familiarity with the challenges and needs of refugee communities.
Proficiency in Digital Tools. Competence in using Teams, Zoom, and other digital communication platforms for virtual meetings and consultations.
Ability to navigate online application systems.
Problem-Solving Skills. Ability to identify barriers, roadblocks, and challenges in the application process and propose effective solutions.
Strong analytical skills to assess and share best practices and effective tools.
Attention to Detail. Meticulous in reviewing applications and ensuring that all necessary information is accurate and complete.
Adaptability and Willingness to Learn. Eagerness to attend training sessions and stay updated on the Welcome Corps application process and related procedures.
Background Check Clearance. Willingness to undergo and pass a background check as part of the onboarding process.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Community Outreach or Volunteer Management. Experience in working with community groups, organizing volunteers, or managing outreach efforts.
Multilingual Skills. Ability to communicate in multiple languages, especially those commonly spoken by refugee communities, is a strong asset.
Cultural Sensitivity and Awareness. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Previous Experience in Application or Administrative Support. Experience in assisting with or managing application processes, particularly in non-profit or community settings.
Knowledge of Refugee Law and Policy. Understanding of the legal and policy framework governing refugee resettlement in the United States.
