Patchwork Indy Believes Black Lives Matter

Updated: Apr 4

Patchwork Indy believes everyone should have the freedom to share their story. Tragically, this right has been denied to Black Americans time and again. As the world unites in outrage at these senseless acts of police brutality, Patchwork Indy mourns with the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Dreasjon Reed, and the countless others who have perished at the hands of a racially unjust system.

We call on our elected officials to ensure that justice is served and to immediately enact the reforms called for by Indy 10 Black Lives Matter, Faith in Indiana, and others which include: strengthening the IMPD Use of Force Policy; enacting de-escalation and procedural justice training; and requiring independent investigations of police violence.

Nothing can replace the lives that have been lost or undo the trauma that has been caused by decades of injustice, but we must all play our part to ensure everyone has the freedom to live: in Indianapolis, in our nation, and in our world.

We encourage you to follow our social media platforms as we hope to create a space where information can be shared in order that you might, informed, choose how to best take action to stand in solidarity with the Black community and all who are on the front lines fighting systemic racism, injustice, police brutality, and hate.
